It looks like there is possible to mount an own SSD now? didn't the last iMac require some kind of Apple supplied mountingkit which you only got when you bought the SSD option?
Yes, it SEEMS that another hard drive can now be fit under the optical drive bay without such an adapter. However, these mounting holes you can see on iFixIt are still not the standard way to attach harddrives, so some sort of adapter might still be required.
On a sidenote, when I was talking to the (very friendly) Apple store employee on the phone yesterday to order my 27" iMac, I was asking the very same question. He put me on hold to talk to a tech-guy about this issue, and came up with the response that an Apple service partner will be able to fit in an additional SSD later. I'm not too certain that this will be true, maybe he just misunderstood my question and meant that the service partner can replace the current harddisk with an SSD (instead of adding an additional one), so I'll remain sceptical.
But the iFixIt-teardown has given me hope that it might in fact be easier now to add another harddrive without BTO.

I have a similar problem, as a Brit I have a bunch of Region2 DVD's that I bought in the UK. Now living in Canada, I now have a bunch of Region1 DVD's. Luckily my DVD player can play multi-regions, but my PC/Macs can't.
Assuming he owns the DVD's (legal point) he could rip them so that the region code is removed - Mac The Ripper will do this. Unfortunately it seems that most software requires that the latest DVD drives are set to the correct region code prior to ripping. So best rip the whole lot at one time, before changing the region code again.
Alternatively buy a second DVD-ROM drive and use that for the other region.

Same problem, and DFU mode did squad.
EDIT: Solved it, was a stupid "error code 1013" (so friggen tired right now I kept seeing 3101, good luck finding a fix for that). Had to delete some stuff from the host file and it worked.
Windows:
Step 1. Start > Programs > Accessories
Step 2. Run Notepad or WordPad
Step 3. Click Open.. from File menu.
Step 4. Browse to Windows/System32/drivers/etc
Step 5. In "files of type:" select all documents
Step 6. Open "hosts"
Step 7. Delete all line that has "gs.apple.com" or something like that
Step 8. Hit Save
Step 9. Restore your device
Got the fix from: http://www.redmondpie.com/fix-itunes-error-1013-when-updating-iphone-4-to-ios-4.2.1/
I tried it, didn't work. Thanks anyway. I went to Apple store and they fixed it. They said Itune didn't complete the download.

I flick my phone's mute switch on and it makes the phone vibrate. Never been amused by it.
Think big...tilting the phone makes a beer pouring sound. Or shaking the phone makes boobies jiggle. Then you'll have something.

I started with Fink, then switched to macports because it seemed to have more recent ports. What is the advantage of homebrew over macports?
It doesn't download and compile packages and tools already present on the system. This makes it smaller and faster, but less robust, since an update from apple could potentially break dependencies. Macports is self contained in the /opt folder.

Hey guys,
Do you have any suggestions for some decent/fun split-screen multiplayers for PS3? I have all of the Call of Duty's, but I'm looking for some other games to try with my friends.

If you can take a close up pic of the logic board near the SCSI IC and (more importantly) the circuit board of the hard drive, I may be able to provide some guidance.
SCSI termination is an odd thing and unless you're dealing with an original drive that hasn't been in an external case or had it's termination altered, there are some pitfalls.
The model of the drive would also be handy.
You may have a faulty drive or even a stiction fault (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stiction#Hard_disk_drives).

Katanna,
This thread had to be renamed from "Katanna #3-12" to "Katanna #3" to conform to the rules. All of the avatars in your first post above are still in the contest, even though the thread gets only a single number (Katanna #3).

Give me a few minutes, the headline let me to believe that you had already decided. Now I find out that it is a thread about which inexpensive card you should get. I am so confused.
Which one are you favoring?

Ok. I want the drop down menu to appear on all the pages no matter what one they click. Is there a code to make it as a header sort of thing? Or should I just copy and past it on each page?

I upgraded to 10.5 + iLife 08 on it although the restore discs are 10.4/06.
If you're selling it upgraded, you've gotta include the discs for 10.5 and iLife '08. If you don't have them or don't want to get rid of them, you'll have to have Tiger and iLife '06 installed.

I'm using InDesign (CS3) to create various items of collateral with common elements. Some of those elements contain type with drop shadows on and a lot of the time, the differences between one item and another (say a leaflet and a banner) requires the various elements to be grouped and scaled up or down.
Unfortunately, when scaling these items, the drop shadows appear to keep their original absolute settings - for instance 100pt copy with a 5mm offset shadow, when scaled to twice the size shows 200pt copy with a 5mm offset shadow, as opposed to the 10mm offset it should be. Am I missing something on the preferences or is this the norm? If so, is there a solution/workaround?

Image from camera or from a file?
Do you want to get an the raw RGB bitmap values, and apply some 2D mathematical filtering functions using the Accelerate framework and/or your own DSP code, or try doing something with the GPU?
Do you want to work in the RGB, YUV or HSV (or some other) color space?

You may want to try this quick terminal command bundle:
 Open Terminal (under Applications, Utilities)
 Type sudo su (without quotes)
Type your password (you must have admin account)
Type sysctl kern.maxfiles (this will show you the max open files allowed currently)
Type sysctl -w kern.maxfiles=#### replacing #### with a number much larger than your current maxfiles setting. For example, if your maxfiles is currently 12000 change it to 24000 or maybe 30000.

Thoughts and inputs between these two.
The con of SGP is that it has rubber around the edges and I was wondering if slipping it in and out of your pocket is a hassle?
the pros is that SGP supplies me with 2 screen protectors and i've heard they make some of the best ones out there.
ALSO: is the matte series rubber easy to slip in and out of my pocket?
The pinlo is aluminum/plastic and seems it will slip in and out of my pocket no problem.
It does come with screen protectors, but idk if they're the same quality as SGP.

I accidentally deleted a whole bunch of files while phone was running and still managed to get it to be recognized by iTunes after 1/2 hour of fooling with home and power button + USB plug. Don't give up.
