They are spot on, whats the state of the Macintosh? Dead? Not one word from Jobs on Macs, None! How many years ago was PowerMac/Macpro designed? How many years of the same old mini case? Mobile device company:rolleyes: Sad indeed when the CEO doesnt mention a Mac once? Pretty ugly when the best they do is a new..................phone weeeeeeeeeeeeee. Computer side is a 2nd class division, a afterthought while Jobs is running after pod, pad and phone holders. Everyone can be hunched over and looking into their little devices hoping to connect to a Net like Jobs was trying:D, what fun! Bring back Enthusiasm for the Mac Apple!

A question to the Mods: Do I need to start a whole new thread for this even though all I did was add a MacRumors Logo?

Hi guys...
So yeah. I have this old iMac G3 that has been sitting in my closet for years, it hasn't been used for over 5 years. So I turn it on yesterday after discovering all the old Mac games on Macintoshgarden, and it works! :D
The specs go as follows:
G3 333 mhz, 64 MB RAM, 6 GB HD, OS 9.2.2
If i buy two 128 MB sticks at OWC, will I be able to run any Mac game from 2001 and older just fine? The early early Mac OS X games built for 10.0-10.1 that are 3D but also compatible with OS 9 are the ones that scare me the most.
Why not go ahead and max the RAM out at 512MB?

But at least it would seem there are people out there in a similar situation. The main problem for me at the moment is that I can't bring myself to create anything good. I'm a bit crap right now....

What did you guys think of the demo?
I had planned to buy this game, but I crossed it off my shopping list after playing the demo. It just doesn't seem to bring ANYTHING new to the table to justify spending money on this. The setting may be somewhat unique, but gameplay-wise EVERYTHING (open world, driving, combat, cover-based shooting...) has been done before, and better. It does look nice, and the car physics are pretty good. But the entire time I just couldn't shake that "been there, done that" feeling... :(

I've set up a server at a colo location. The company has a really great deal price wise, but they don't have any Mac experience. They learned a lot helping me out, but I am concerned that I need to change my settings.
By the way, the reason why these guys are so great is that for $29.95, you get a 1U rack space and 3 IP addresses. So I was able to fit my Mac Mini along with an external hard drive in a 1U rack.
Anyhow, in the process of setting up, they deleted my Reverse Zone and set me up with their secondary server. I finally found out, after the server and www. appears to be working, I have an error when I did a sudo changeip -checkhostname
I got a the colo companies host name as Current HostName and the following message: To fix the hostname please run /usr/sbin/changeip for your system with the appropriate directory with the following values
/usr/sbin/changeip ##.###.##.## ##.###.##.## name.hostname.name.net www.mydomain.com
I replaced numbers with # and letters with other text.
After I went through some more Lynda.com tutorials, I realized that I could have set it up differently, using Networksolutions.com's advanced dns.
I have a feeling that I need to start all over.
Any advise.

maybe i've just been being thick and missed this one before, but in a new CNET article (http://news.com.com/Is+the+PowerPC+due+for+a+second+wind+-+page+2/2008-1006_3-5983157-2.html?tag=st.next), it says:
"Weren't you there during the discussions when IBM convinced Apple to adopt the G5?
Mayer: In my previous job, I ran IBM's semiconductor business. So I've seen both sides of the Apple story, because I sold the G5 to Steve (Jobs) the first time he wanted to move to Intel."
(emphasis mine)
i'd knew that they'd been building Mac OS X for intel since the beginning, but this interview makes it sound like steve has previously wanted to switch to intel but had been talked out of it by IBM....

I have a problem since the 10.3.8 update that neither my AlumiBook nor my G5 will got to sleep. It's terribly annoying.
Anyone else have this issue?
Actually yes. That's happening with my G4 867. I thought I was taking crazy pills or something. I didn't know whether or not it was the update cuz I never used to sleep my tower, then one day I had it shut down and I realized it's like having a Cessna in your bedroom.

I am selling a used 15" PowerBook with the specs listed below. It has been thoroughly used but it is still in good condition. As you will see in the pictures, it has the minor dents, scratches and blemishes that you would expect on a 3 year old laptop. The hard drive was replaced by Apple under warranty only a year ago. The computer is technically still under warranty although the 3-yr extended AppleCare warranty expires on July 16th (next month).

This is probably a very basic question...
I have a Dell desktop pc that is directly connected to a Time Capsule router. Can a 2nd computer in my network (a Mac laptop that is connecting wirelessly) - can that user in any way access my internet browsing history? Does the Time Capsule store that info? (FYI - The 2nd computer is the admin of the Time Capsule.)
Thanks for any info! :)

Apple already stated that no hardware announcements were going to come out of WWDC.
Also changing the iPad 2 so closely to the initial release makes little business sense as they'll alienate a huge segment of customers who just bought an iPad 2.
You do realize that april fools was yesterday and not today

Could you not directly connect the two Mac's together with ethernet and then have them use their own Airport cards to connect to a different network? I'm not 100% sure if that would work, but seems like it could. When I need to transfer files to my wife's laptop I often plug it into my Mac Pro via ethernet and transfer the files. Meanwhile, I am still browsing the web on my Mac Pro via our WiFi network. The only difference there is that I'm sharing my internet from Airport to the laptop via ethernet, so I'm not sure if the laptop would still be able to use WiFi separately from the wired connection.

To wrap up...
People were joining the queue at 5pm still, stocks were extremely limited by that point and only a handful of specific models remained.
Overall the queue was well over 200 growing steadily all afternoon.
Staff were great, chatty and friendly and dishing out StarBucks coffee and bottled water all afternoon
Here a quick video of the moment of the curtain drop which i saw thanks to a timely reshuffle of the queue
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UT0-RKR0wF8&hd=1
I was 80th in line and managed to get everything i wanted and was out of the store and on my way home by about 5:45pm
Fairly well organised and would definitely consider going there again for a launch
