HDD or SSD?
EDIT: I reread the article. The boy who was shot actually died! Now I feel like a jerk for joking about it.

Those sound massive. Maybe they're from MacWorld (Powerbook G4) or WWDC (Powermac) expos or something. I have only been to an Apple store 3x, but I can't imagine them using anything that big. Thats why I would guess expo banners instead. Sound like a cool way to wallpaper the garage!

I had a powerbook G4 1.67 that bit the dust this week after 6 years. No complaints, but I need to get the information off the hard drive. I have a firewire enclosure that I use for my IDE hard drives, but this drive doesn't match up to that adapter. (at least I don't think it does). I've already removed the hard drive from the powerbook. I just need to either get an adapter for it to fit my FW enclosure or some other adapter to USB so that I can migrate the stuff to a new macbookpro.
The drive is a Seagate Momentus 5400-2 100Gb hard drive.
What's the best course of action?
Thanks in advance.
Mack

Just purchased one today and got it working. Pretty fast! Impressed! Now I want to use my Time Machine with it and when I tried, it communicated, and was running a clean up then said error 45. Not sure why or what I can do. Anyone have any pointers? I have a WD External 500gb HD attached to the USB of the Airport Extreme.

Possibly so that they can process most of the people with reservations before starting with the people without? After all, it wouldn't be fair if they had lots of spare units and started letting people just walk in and buy one, with people in the reservation line having to wait.

Girding for a potential threat from Apple Inc., online DVD rental service Netflix Inc. is lifting its limits on how long most subscribers can watch movies and television shows over high-speed Internet connections.
The Associated Press has learned the change will become effective Monday, on the eve of Apple's widely anticipated move into the movie rental industry. Although Apple hasn't confirmed anything yet, Chief Executive Steve Jobs is expected to make it official during a presentation Tuesday in San Francisco.
Netflix is gearing up for the increased competition by expanding a year-old feature that streams movies over the Internet instead of making customers wait for their online rental requests to be delivered through the mail.

I've been going through many threads and can't decide on a particular setup so I thought I'd open up a thread and get some opinions.
I'm currently doing my masters in aero. engineering and also fly planes on the side/am working towards my commercial license. After I'm finished (in about 4 months) I plan on potentially doing med. school and continuing to fly. I've currently got the 27" i7 iMac at home which I use quite often, but can't decide on whether or not to get and keep a 11" Macbook Air (upgraded 4gb) or iPad 2 (64gb wifi) (I picked up both and have about a week and a half left to return either one).
I've been leaning towards the air since it seems to be the more versatile option, but on the other hand since I have a regular desktop/full mac at home I feel like having something low power on the road to be the better option.
Well, it really depends on what you want/need to do on the road. If you're looking for content consumption and a little bit of e-mail, the iPad seems like a good choice.
If you need a full computer on the road for...? Looking at the applications in the Dock of my MBP, Address Book, iCal, Mail, Safari, Text Editor, iTunes, iPhoto, DVD Player, iChat. Well, you can do most of that with an iPad pretty well and either via cable or MobileMe sync, the data would sync with your iMac.
But then I run Windows in a VM almost all of the time and sometimes need VPN (Watchguard custom) and connect to multiple computers via RDP, the iPad doesn't go there.
So, light duty computing? iPad! Full on computing? MBA 11"!
Cheers.

Sorry, I don't seem to have the rights to post a new thread in the Wasteland, which seems like the most appropriate forum.... :D
So ... some people from the UK persuasion of English say, "I can't be arsed into doing [such and such a thing]." But I have never heard of anyone being successfully arsed into doing something. What does that involve, and how kinky is it? :D
Anyone else got some? Feel free to make fun of us Yanks. :)

exciting but this is going to use A LOT of power, especially with new generations of GPUs possibly approaching 200watts
Watts the problem when you want to be first? ;)
People have been calling for the Cell processor to be used for folding. GPUs obviously have really great floating point capabilities and they can even speed up poor (s)Tinker code dramatically.
Of course, with Vista following Mac OS X in using the GPU for certain effects, that GPU is going to be busy.

Seeing as how the phone is several years old, and is not functioning properly, I would like to attempt to break... er I mean fix it one more time before I throw in the towel. I honestly don't care if its repairable or not. Does anybody have anything useful that I can try???
Thanks!
Edit:
The problem was the battery. I'm really surprised that nobody suggested that...
Now the antenna isn't working, but I'm pretty sure that I bent the gold pin next to the do not remove screw away from the case. However, bending it back to where it is touching the silver bezel around the case makes no difference. I also read that the headphone jack serves as part of the antenna, and that screw was missing, but I've since located and installed it with no change to the antenna strength. I did have 1 bar for about 5 seconds after initially installing the SIM card, but I have since seen nothing but "No Service".
Thanks!

I dont see why they wont have FM radio on the 4G.... unless they want it to be unique to the Nano only.... but it would help compete against Zune....

A Mac Mini could easily run as an HTPC, webserver and fileserver at the same time depending on client traffic. If its just your notebook then no sweat at all.

The new iMacs use at least these CPUs:
i5 (Intel Core™ i5-2400 Processor ) and i7 (Intel Core™ i7-2600 Processor)
The i5 Desktop CPUs are quad core and have one thread per core.
The i7s are quad core two, but have two threads per core.
Maybe this can help: http://ark.intel.com/ProductCollection.aspx?familyID=42912&MarketSegment=DT
And here are some benchmarks: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/sandy-bridge-core-i7-2600k-core-i5-2500k,2833.html
